Getting Started with your HP server - Step Three: Ilo Setup
Initial Setup
For remote access to your HP server, you can setup the Integrated Lights Out or iLo. This gives you more than just remote access to your OS, like with Remote Desktop, but access to the entire machine outside of the OS. You can even install an OS through iLo.
For initial setup, you'll need to be in front of the server. During power on, the server will prompt you to enter the iLo setup. For newer servers, you will need to press any key to see the prompt.
Press F8 to enter the iLo setup.
You'll be presented with main page. Select 'Network' and then 'DNS/DHCP'
On this page turn 'DHCP Enable' to off as we'll want to give the iLo a static IP address for easier access. Hit f10 to Save.
Go Back to 'Network' and this time select the first option 'NIC and TCP/IP'.
Under IP address, give your iLo a dedicated IP address and fill out the netmask and gateway. Hit F10 to Save.
You can also edit the Administrator password. The default password is printed on a label on the server. To change it select 'User' and then 'Edit'.
Select Administrator and make any changes you want to the user on this screen. Hit F10 to save.
Using iLo
On your workstation, you can login to the iLo with a web browser. (Internet Explorer seems to behave the best) Simply enter the IP address on the address bar. Then enter your username and password.
Here you can check the server status and reboot the server in the event of a crash. In order to use the remote console you will need to purchase an iLo Advanced license. You purchase this Direct from our site or if you would like to try it out first, you can obtain a 60 Day trial direct from HPE.

Enter your product key in the provided boxes and Save.
You can now use the remote console. Select the 'Remote Console' Tab at the top and click on 'Integrated remote console' to start your session. (If you are using Firefox, select 'Remote Console' to use the Java version.
If you want to install an OS from here, be sure to select virtual media and connect a CD/DVD/Flash/image drive of your OS install disk. You can see the menu selection in the image above.
Note: If the keyboard does not work, be sure to add the iLo's address to the Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer.

We spent some time on this... Just to mention a method around this if you have difficulties...or have run out of support. This is nothing googling the model number of hardware won't tell you...
The issue as stated is there is an BIOS not ILO password... It presents a screen 'Administrative Password Security Enter Password'
Which looks like attached picture:
In the HP Gen8 box, opening the case and looking on the board you can see this (see pic):
Setting DIP switch 5 on SW2 is what needs to be done to bypass this..
As shown in this picture
